5 Effortless Ways to Drink More Water

As always, all opinions are my own. For more information see my disclosures here.

As part of my 2015 resolutions, I vowed to get my skin back in order. I’m in the process of switching to an all-natural skincare regimen, but I’m also making changes from the inside out – including drinking more water. It’s a no brainer that drinking water helps combat dry skin and keeps it looking fresh, soft and glowing. I know from experience, however, that drinking enough water can be a struggle. {Please tell me I’m not the only one who hates the taste of water.}

Over the past few weeks I’ve upped my water intake by doing these five effortless steps:

1. Start your day with a tall glass of water. As soon as I wake up, I go into the kitchen and pour myself a large, cold glass of water. Now that this is part of my everyday routine, I wake up super thirsty and needing that glass of H2O. I start drinking it as soon as I get out of bed and continue while as I’m scheduling social media posts, answering emails, and reading the news {yes, I’m probably the only person who still enjoys reading the news as opposed to watching it on tv}.

2. Drink a cup of warm water with lemon. This is new to my water drinking routine, and I’m so glad I started it. As I mentioned before, I strongly dislike the taste of water. If I force myself to drink it, I will, but if I add a bit of lemon it’s much more enjoyable. I like drinking warm water with lemon once I get to work. I’ll add a sliver of lemon to the water and refill my mug at least 2-3 times throughout the morning. Warm water with lemon has so many benefits including reducing inflammation, flushing out toxins, aiding in digestion, and balancing pH levels. Let’s not forget that lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C, an essential nutrient that protects against immune system deficiencies.

3. Invest in a water bottle that you love. I’m a very visual person. If I don’t like the way something looks, I won’t use it. I’m like that with a lot of things in my life, especially my water bottles. For whatever reason, if I have a pretty water bottle, I’m more likely to use it and show it off! Currently, I’m loving glass water bottles because it’s not only 100% recyclable, but also BPA free and dishwasher safe. Water also tastes so much better in glass. There’s no unpleasant plastic or metallic taste! I love the glass bottles from Ello Products, which are available at Target. I like using the Percy bottle while I’m at home, and the Syndicate bottle while I’m on the go because it has a leak-proof cap.

4. Document your progress. I’m addicted to apps. I’m not kidding. Every few days I browse around the App Store and see if there’s anything new worth downloading. I have apps for basically every aspect of my life, so documenting my water intake was a no brainer. Some of my favorites include Waterlogged, WaterMinder and Daily Water Free.

5. End your night with a cup of herbal tea. I love drinking herbal tea at night, especially chamomile. Chamomile tea can help with a lot of different ailments including insomnia, anxiety and panic attacks and stomach problems. There’s something so relaxing about siting on the couch after a long day, turning on Netflix or the DVR, and drinking a hot cup of tea.

When I eat out, I always order water with lemon instead of soda or iced tea. It saves money and you are getting several glasses of water. I had no idea about water log apps. I do need to drink more water, especially at work. I’m going to check out the apps and see which one I like best.

I really like that potted plant!!!

I am terrible at drinking water. The taste is just so blah! I use an app to stay on track for how many ounces I drink in a day, but I need a reminder every hour to start drinking. I prefer tea over water. Black tea isn’t all that great for you, especially when you drink 3+ glasses a day. Warm lemon water is tasty though too!
