5 Tips for Stress-Free Travel

The next few months are going to be crazy. In a few weeks, I’m traveling to Las Vegas for work, and then in November I’m going to San Diego with Bryan for a vacation. All this travel has got me a bit anxious. Will I forget something? Will my flight be delayed? What if the weather is crappy? Obviously, some things are out of your control, but today I’m sharing 5 tips for stress-free travel. Comment below and let me know where you’re traveling next!

1. Pack an organized carry-on bag

When I travel, I almost always just bring a carry-on bag. Checking luggage stresses me out. When packing your carry-on bag, my number one tip would be to be organized! Don’t just throw everything together, and don’t do it last minute. I like making sure that any items I need during my flight are easily accessible. My favorite items to keep in my carry-on include GoToobs for liquids, my iPhone + headphones, my laptop, the best lip balm ever, moisturizer, hand sanitizer, gum, and reading material. Of course, I also carry the essentials like credit cards, passport and medications.

2. Check-in online & arrive to the airport early

Checking into your flight online will save you time at the airport. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spend my time people watching, reading magazines and waiting at the gate. Running around the airport to get onto the plane in time is no fun. (Trust me).  Additional tip: One of my favorite travel apps is TripIt. TripIt syncs with your email, and automatically creates a detailed itinerary for you. You’ll even get mobile notifications if a flight is delayed for cancelled.

3. Plan activities ahead of time

Remain stress-free and save a bit of money by planning activities ahead of time. I love using websites like LivingSocial and GroupOn to research deals on restaurants and excursions in whatever city I’m visiting. You’re probably super excited to plan, plan, plan, but don’t forget that you’ll need some downtime too. I know that for me, naps or just lying down watching Netflix is important for me to stay energized.

4. Call your debit and credit card providers

You’re most likely going to use your debit or credit cards to pay for things on your trip. Depending on where you’re traveling, you may need to let your providers know before you go. If you don’t alert them, some won’t let purchases go through if you’re in a foreign country or in a state far from where you live.

5. If you can, travel with a friend

Traveling with a friend is a great way to share the experience and have fun. If you’re feeling anxious about flying or packing for your trip, talking it over with a friend can help.

Glad I could help, Shadi! Thanks for reading.

Great tips! I especially need help with the overplanning. I never leave enough downtime to just chill. Groupon and Living Social are great ones to check before you leave! I also check out restaurant.com for cheaper meals in the cities I’m going to too!

Ooh good recommendation. I forgot about restaurant.com!

I don’t think no. 2 can ever be overestimated. Great tips!

This is amazing advice! I never would have thought about calling my card companies! Good post! 🙂

Thanks, Kate! It was something my husband told me about before our honeymoon. Glad we knew ahead of time!

Nice tips! I’m headed to Europe in December and had not considered number 4.
