5 Ways to Refuel on Your Weekends

I’m a work-a-holic, type A, meticulous person.  I try to put 100% into anything that I set out to do.  However, by the time the weekend rolls around, I am exhausted.  I figured that there are probably many other people out there who have this problem too.  I’m come up with my favorite 5 ways to refuel on the weekends.

Starbucks makes work so much better.

1.  If you have to do work, go to Starbucks or a local coffee shop for a change of scenery.  I know that sometimes when I sit in bed all day and get work done on my laptop, I get a bit stir-crazy.  By just getting up and changing location, I always get a burst of energy… but hey, a iced tall soy chai + oatmeal helps as well.

2. Go for a run, walk, yoga session, etc. Being active is one of my favorite hobbies. I am moving in 2 weeks and my townhouse complex has a gym! (More on my move, in a post later this week). During the summer, I loved going for a morning run. Now that it is 30-40 degrees in the mornings, it’s a bit harder to get the motivation to go for a run outside. Although some areas may be too cold (for me) to go running, there is always the option of doing cross training at your local gym or even taking out a yoga mat and doing some stretching or sequences in your house.

3. Eat a healthy meal. Some people think that eating poorly on the weekends is okay. Sure, I am not saying that you have to be health-conscious all day everyday, but just think about this: If you eat bad food only on the weekends, that is 8 days a month. 8 out of 30 days is a little over a quarter of the month!

4. Organize. I love re-organizing my things. Sometimes as I am cleaning, I find items of clothes that I forgot I had. Organizing is great, because it lets you put effort into something other than your full or part-time job. I love the feeling of walking into a clean bedroom; especially if I re-organize the furniture. It always feels new.

5. Step away from your computer. I definitely need to do this a bit more. Unplugging yourself from technology for a few hours can be scary for some people (like myself!). If I’m not online checking emails, I’m playing iPhone games, blogging, or online shopping. It’s refreshing to disconnect yourself for a while and go do something that doesn’t use technology. Some options include painting, drawing, doing puzzles, and writing.
