50 questions that will free your mind

One of the items to complete on my 101 in 1001 list is to answer the 50 questions that will free your mind. So, that’s what I’m doing today!

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I hope that never happens.

2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Definitely never trying. I’d hate to be 80 years old and regret that I never tried something that was important to me.

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Because it’s so easy to try and please other people instead of putting ourselves first.

4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
I hope not!

5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
I’d get rid of all the hate and spread more love.

6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Owning my own company. Not sure exactly what type of company just yet. Maybe something with writing and consulting.

7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
I wouldn’t be able to wake up, go about my day, and go to bed happy if I wasn’t doing something I believe in.

8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
I’d travel more, worry less and spend more time with my family.

9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Very much so. I take my family and friend’s opinions to heart, but at the end of the day I make decisions based on what feels right to me.

10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing the right things.

11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
When I was younger, I probably wouldn’t have said anything in order to fit in a group of people I admired. Now, I would definitely stick up for my friend.  If three people were criticizing one of my close friends,  I would no longer respect and admire them anyway.

12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Do one thing everyday that makes you happy.

13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Eek, probably not? Ahh, I don’t know. It would depend what I had to do I guess.

14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
Yes, many times during dance classes and choreography sessions.

15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
Think. We all think differently!

16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Everyone has different hobbies and interests.

17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?
Traveling to Europe. Money.

18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
I constantly think about decisions I’ve made in the past and whether I would have done things differently.

19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
San Diego, California. The weather is gorgeous and I think my family would be truly happy there.

20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
Yes, I push the elevator button a bunch of times. I don’t think it makes it go any faster, I just do it out of habit.

21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
Joyful simpleton.

22. Why are you, you?
There are too many things to note.

23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
I hope so! I always try to treat people the way I’d like to be treated, especially when it comes to my friends.

24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
Losing touch with a good friend who lives nearby. If a good friend moves away, there’s always the option to continue making your friendship a high priority.

25. What are you most grateful for?
My family.

26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
OMG, I don’t know! This question makes me sad. I’ve had amazing memories so far in my life and I’d hate to lose them.

27. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Maybe.

28. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
My greatest fear is losing a loved one, and yes that has unfortunately come true.

29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
5 years ago was 2010. Nothing that made me really upset them really matters now.

30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
Family vacations or holiday dinners, because my whole family was together and having fun. I can’t wait to eventually have children of my own, and be able to build traditions together.

31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
Everyday I write on my blog. It’s my passion and makes me happy to share my thoughts and ideas with my readers.

32. If not now, then when?
Now. Do what makes you feel passionate and alive now. You might not get “later.”

33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
Nothing.

34. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
Never.

35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
I don’t know. Maybe that’s why I don’t associate with one type of religion.

36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
No.

37. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
It would depend on a lot of things. Do I have something else in the works? What are my family’s financial goals?

38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
Without question – more work I enjoy doing.

39. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
No.

40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
When I decided to go to graduate school. I found out about my master’s program and quickly decided to apply. I was accepted a week later. I wasn’t sure if I would succeed and I didn’t know what I wanted the end goal to be. It was one of those decisions I didn’t think through completely, but I’m so grateful that I did.

41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
OMG this is terrible. All of my family and friends. I would make the time to do that.

42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
Not a chance.

43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
A lot of people go about their days doing the same thing over and over. They fall into a routine that doesn’t make them happy. In my opinion, truly living means making it a point to do one thing everyday that challenges you and makes you happy.

44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
Now.

45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Even though we learn from our mistakes, the consequences can be scary.

46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
Travel the world.

47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
Every night when I’m trying to fall asleep, or when I meditate.

48. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
I love being creative. It makes me feel alive. And yes, every time I work on a new blog post or start a new project, I’m doing something I love.

49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?
Probably not, unless I did something kick ass amazing.

50. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
Making them for myself.
