A Weekend in the Poconos

Mt Airy Casino Resort Review

A few weekends ago, Bryan and I took a little weekend getaway to the Pocono Mountains, which is only about two hours north of where we live. We couldn’t have picked a better time to go, because the weather was in the 50s and sunny!

We stayed at Mount Airy Casino Resort. Trust me, you don’t need to be gamblers to have a blast here. Bryan and I don’t gamble, but we still found lots of fun stuff to do… which I’ll get into in a minute. But first, let’s talk about the hotel itself.

Hotel

Best part about checking into the hotel was that we didn’t have to deal with the crazies at the casino {I swear some of those people are zombies and don’t sleep.} The check-in desk was completely separate from the casino floor, which was awesome. The staff made sure we were well taken care of and answered all the questions we had.

Our room was really nice. It was on the top floor, so we had a bomb view of the golf course and pond. We also had vaulted ceilings which made the room feel huge. Plus, it had massive mirrors perfect for selfies and snapchatting. Bryan got tired of my snapping pretty early on, and was ducking out of the way. Little plug … are you following me on snapchat? – @nicoleraudonis.

Restaurants

We tried food from every restaurant in the resort during our stay. There’s so much to choose from. Here’s what we had:

  • A huge breakfast buffet
  • Pancakes, breakfast burrito, burger and salad {obviously not all at once} at Guy Fieri’s
  • Sushi at Lucky 8
  • Oysters, swordfish and steak at Bistecca

Although there were mixed reviews online for Bistecca, Bryan wanted to check it out anyway and I’m glad we did. The swordfish was my favorite meal of the weekend, and Bryan’s favorite was their steak. Nothing was overcooked, the staff was super attentive {we’re talking 3 servers on our table!}, and the place had a really cool ambiance. The menu had everything from seafood to steak to pasta! I love restaurants like this, because sometimes I just don’t know what I’m in the mood for until a minute before I order.

Of course, a weekend vacation must also involve cocktails. The majority of the weekend I sipped on Grey Goose & Pellegrino with lots of lemon, since it keeps me hydrated and is relatively low-cal. However, my favorite drink was one I had a Guy Fieri’s – a jalapeño infused tequila margarita. OMG you guys. This is what dreams are made of. If you EVER see this on a menu, you have to promise me that you’ll order it.

Entertainment

One of the nights, we saw a U2 cover band called Unforgettable Fire at Gypsies, the resort’s nightclub. Naturally, most people cringe when hearing “cover band” but trust me these guys were on point. Not only were the vocals amazing, but the guy looked SO much like Bono it was scary. The concert made for a pretty fun night. After eating my weight in calories at dinner, dancing around was my goal and these guys made it super easy.

Spa

Whenever we stay at a nice resort, I always try to pamper myself at the spa. This of course was no exception. I spent a few hours one morning relaxing and enjoying a massage. I told the masseuse to use medium to heavy pressure, and thankfully she did. It felt SO good afterwards. {Side note: Does anyone else hate when masseuses just basically rub your back, when you say you want a deep tissue massage?} Oh and yes, they had spa water, and I made sure to tell Bryan that everyone there called it spa water. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you need to check out this post to get the joke.

We had such a fun time in the Poconos and I can’t wait to go back!

Thank you to Mt Airy Casino Resort for hosting us.
