Engagement Party Cupcake Tasting

Remember when I told you last week about our amazing baker for our engagement party cupcakes?  I left you hanging when I didn’t reveal how our actual tasting went and which flavors we ended up choosing.

A few weekends ago – actually the same day that we signed our venue contract, Bryan and I drove down to Jenkintown, PA.to Velvet Sky Bakery for our cupcake tasting.  After speaking with the owner, Jordan, on the phone I was eager to see the shop and taste their cupcakes!

When I got to the bakery, I was pleasantly surprised at how quaint it was.  I immediately began taking photos.  After taking a few shots, I introduced myself to Jordan and reminded her about my blog.  (That way her staff didn’t think I was crazy just snapping a bunch of pictures).

Our consultation was so great.  I was a bit anxious going into the day, because I wasn’t sure what exactly we wanted.  I had a vision of what I wanted it to look like but didn’t know how to explain it.

The first part of our consultation was deciding generally what we wanted.  We picked out a cupcake tower consisting of mini cupcakes.  We felt like that was the best choice for a party, because then people can taste a couple cupcakes without having to eat a massive one.

Once that decision was made, Jordan asked what our colors were going to be.  We initially picked out peach and light pink, but a few days ago I emailed her and changed them.  The colors are for the ribbons on our cupcake stand.

After all those decision were made, the fun part really started!  The tasting!

It was so clever the way that our tasting was designed.  Jordan brought out a plate of icing and a plate of cake.  This way we could mix and match and pretty much design our own cupcakes.  If we wanted to try anything specifically on the menu, Jordan brought out the additional ingredients and we made them right then and there.  So cool!

So what did we pick?

  • Vanilla cake with raspberry buttercream and raspberry drizzle
  • Chocolate cake with a chunky cookie dough buttercream
  • Lemon cake with lemon buttercream
  • Chocolate cake stuffed with salted caramel & frosted with a caramel churned buttercream

I can not wait to have these at our party.  They will be the center of our dessert table.  I’m sure our guests will love them!  Thank you to Jordan for being so helpful during our consultation and tasting.  For a full list of the flavors available, please visit the Velvet Sky website.

FTC: In exchange for promotion on the blog, our cupcakes were complimentary.  But as always, I would never promote a product that I don’t truly love.

Talk to Me:

  • Out of the flavors we picked, which would be your favorite?
  • Have you gone to a tasting before?  What was your experience like?
  • Which do you prefer:  cupcakes or pie?  Clearly I love cupcakes!
