friday favs

Hey, it’s Friday. Woop woop! I thought this day would never come. Bryan and I had a busy week and can’t wait to spend time relaxing this weekend. I have a lot of photos that need to be taken on Saturday morning for the blog, but then we’re going to have dinner with my in-laws and hang out by their pool. Although I mentioned in my fall fashion post that I’m looking forward to the weather cooling down, I AM going to miss having sunlight until 8pm, BBQ-ing and floating in the pool. It’s time to soak up these last few weeks of summer!

Let’s get into my Friday Favorites.

flameless candles decor

1. Flameless Candles

When I was looking for decor pieces for our new apartment, I knew I wanted to add more candles. In my opinion, they make any space immediately feel more cozy. So, I did some Googling and found this site called Lights.com. I emailed the company with some questions about their products, and they were so kind to send me two different sets of flameless candles as a gift for our new place. {FYI: They aren’t paying me anything to mention them!} OMG you guys. I am absolutely in love with these candles. Apparently, I’ve been living under a rock because flameless candles have been around for a while. I really do need to get out more. I have this set of flameless candles in the living room as you can see above, and I have this set in our master bathroom.

Here’s why I love them so much, and why they made my Friday Favorites list. First, I don’t have to worry about Pete getting into them. I’m super paranoid every time I light a candle. I’ll never leave a room with one lit, in fear that it’s going to knock over and catch something on fire. If you have a dog, you know that you have to be extra careful. With flameless candles, you don’t have that worry. Secondly, I get the “melted candle” look without actually having to burn anything. Thirdly, these candles will last FOREVER {or at least until the batteries die and need to be replaced}. And lastly, the candles come with a tiny remote that allows you to control power, brightness, a timer, and a static or flickering glow.

I’m literally obsessed with these things and mention them to every guest that comes over. If you’re looking for new home decor, I highly recommend that you order a set of flameless candles. I promise that you won’t be disappointed!

aurora's natural salad fixins

2. Salad Fixins

Last week at work, we had a “build-your-own” salad party for lunch. One of the items there was this product called Salad Fixins, which has dried cranberries, raw sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, slivered almonds and salted sesame sticks {THE BEST!}. I loved it so much that I went out to the store the next day and bought a container for myself. It’s a great mix of sweet and salty and the almonds provide a good source of protein to keep you feeling full longer.

If you live near a Giant food store, you can purchase Salad Fixins there. It’s located near the dried fruit section of the produce department. If you can’t find it at your local food store, don’t worry because Amazon has it, of course!

3. Sunny-side Up Eggs

I know this is a weird favorite, but I’m being real. I’ve been loving sunny-side up eggs lately, which is weird being I despised them when I growing up. I used to be a scrambled-eggs-only type of gal, but things have changed my friends. However, ask me to make them myself? NOPE. I ruin them every single time. That’s why I’m grateful to have a husband who likes cooking me breakfast on the weekends. If we’re being honest, I ate sunny-side up eggs for breakfast twice last weekend. But that’s just how I roll. If I like a particular food, I’ll eat it over and over again, which usually ends up making me hate it. When will I learn?!

Here’s how I like them: Almost over-cooked {the yolk shouldn’t be completely runny}, with lots of cracked pepper and chives, and dash of sea salt and hot sauce. It’s nothing fancy, but I LOVE it.

4. Big Brother

During the summer, I’m glued to the TV because Big Brother is on. Does anyone else watch this show? Please comment below and let me know. My in-laws introduced me to the show probably back in 2010/2011 and I’ve been hooked ever since. If you’ve never heard about this show, you can read more about it here. Basically, a bunch of contestants become roommates for the summer and compete to stay in the house. There’s a lot of drama, manipulation and crying. All of which makes for great TV!

Hey Jax! I’m an episode behind, so IDK who went home on Thursday. I’m catching up on that probably tomorrow. But I’d love for either James or Paul to win. You?!
