You guys know how much I love my dog Pete. I talk about him on the blog a LOT, I post photos of him constantly on social media, and he even has his own Instagram account. He’s been a huge part of our family since we got him in 2014. Bryan wasn’t completely on board with getting a dog right after getting married, but I saw Pete’s photo and knew it was the right decision. Now, we both can’t imagine our lives without him. We’re obsessed.

Pete is pretty spoiled to say the least. I like buying him the absolute best food on the market, no matter the price. I’m particular about his food, because some brands pack their products with a bunch of crap that’s bad for your pup’s digestions. I’ve found a few high quality treats for Pete in-store, but I like making him snacks from scratch if I can.

I had some extra time this past weekend, so I decided to whip up a super simple DIY dog treat recipe using literally two ingredients – peanut butter and bananas. These are two of Pete’s all time favorite foods. He likes cheese too, but that would be a weird combo. You’ll also need dog-themed cookie cutters {I used this set from Wayfair – they have the best pet section!}, a ramekin, and a large plate or baking dish.

Ingredients
  1. 3 bananas
  2. 1 cup of peanut butter
Instructions
  1. Peel and slice your bananas
  2. Place bananas and peanut butter in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. If too thick, you can add a tablespoon or two of water. Consistency should be very smooth.
  3. Scoop the mixture into 2 or 3 small ramekins, and spread the rest on a square plate or baking dish.
  4. Place both items in the freezer for 2 hours or until solid.
  5. Remove from freezer, and use cookie cutters to cut shapes out of the mixture in the baking dish or plate. Place the cut-outs on top of the frozen mixture in the ramekin.
Notes
  1. To speed up the process, you can freeze the sliced bananas ahead of time.

Bryan and I were hysterically laughing while we were taking these photos, because Pete had his eye on the treats the entire time. To be honest, I was surprised that he didn’t leap up and pull it off the counter. When we finally gave him the treat to try, he absolutely loved it. I think you can tell from his facial expression in the photo at the end of the post. His stomach is rather small, so he didn’t get the whole treat all at once. I put some in the freezer so he can enjoy it at another time. I’m sure he’s dreaming about it.

Margie loves these. Do you have anything else that she might enjoy that I can make?
