MARCH GOAL RECAP & APRIL GOALS
April 2, 2014 | Goals |
Did everyone enjoy their April Fools Day yesterday? This year I didn’t pull any pranks, but I saw a bunch of them go by on Facebook. I read that people were traveling to a foreign country for a new job, got an email regarding their dream job in entertainment, and were pregnant. Actually the amount of people that pretended to be pregnant on Facebook yesterday was astonishing.
In case you were wondering from my post on Monday… Bryan and I picked up our wedding certificate without any problems and we are one step closer to become Mr. and Mrs.! The process was super easy and all we had to do was provide a few pieces of critical information, swear under oath, sign our certificate, and then the certificate was printed for us. Easy.
Okay, now that you’re all caught up let’s get into my March goal recap and my April goals.
Goal #1:
Get more organized for the wedding. Completed! Last weekend, I bought a plastic bin to hold all of our current wedding décor, menus and table number stands. At least now the bulk of the wedding stuff is in one place and not sprawled out all over our home office. I also organized the reception seating chart. It’s almost done. Just a few more people to move around and it will be completed.
Goal #2:
Continue doing yoga at least a few times a week. Did not complete. Yea, let’s not talk about it. I haven’t had the chance to do much after work these days and that’s the only excuse I can give. Planning a wedding is tough!
Goal #3:
Get through the month without any crazy wedding-related meltdowns. Did not complete. With the wedding now just a month away, I feel even more pressure to get a lot accomplished each and every day. The list is getting shorter, but I feel like I’m forgetting things sometimes.
Goal #1:
Kick my butt into shape. The wedding is only a month away! Now is the time to finally stop making excuses and really get into shape for this wedding. I have a pretty good metabolism for the most part (crosses my fingers that it stays like this forever). If I work out for a week straight, I’ll start to see results pretty quickly. All I need to do is get motivated and determined to stay on track.
Goal #2:
Keep my apartment clean all of the time. We’ve been actually really good about cleaning up the dishes each night and putting our clothes away after they get out of the dryer. I like when the apartment is tidy because it puts me at ease. I want to continue keeping it clean during the month of April and do a big spring cleaning weekend sometime soon.
Goal #3:
Finish my vows. Okay so this one must get done this month, obviously. I started writing them last night and I know it’s going to take a couple sit-downs to actually finish them. I have the framework down, so now I have to write down all the specifics.

FEB. GOAL RECAP & MARCH GOALS
March 6, 2014 | Goals |
I can’t believe it’s already March. Doesn’t it feel like Christmas was last week?! My wedding is less than two months away and it’s starting to catch up to us. There are so many things to still do. Maybe I’ll do a post next week about all the things that need to get completed by May 2. I’m sure no one will care aside from myself, but it will help me keep things organized.
Anyway, since it’s now March I figured I should probably do my monthly goal recap and goal setting post. Enjoy.
Goal #1:
Dedicate more time to working out (Completed). Since purchasing my own set of dumbbells, I’ve been lifting much more frequently than in months past. I’m also doing yoga more frequently. I call this a win! I definitely want to get back into running, especially since I have a 5K race in the middle of April. My goal is to at least try to run the entire thing. I haven’t run consistently since training for the half marathon I did in Nov. 2012. That seems like decades ago and my body definitely feels like it was.
Goal #2:
Be in bed by 10PM every night (Somewhat completed). Although I’m getting to bed earlier than before, I tend to lay in bed for a while on my cell phone. It’s a nasty habit, but I can’t seem to let it go. I don’t have a lot of time during the day to just browse Instagram or Pinterest, so when I go to bed it’s the perfect time.
Goal #3:
Complete items on my wedding to-do list (Completed). This month, I had my first fitting, scheduled my hair and makeup trials, sent out my invitations, ordered our guest book, ordered our table number holders, somewhat designed our programs, somewhat figured out a signature drink, and probably a lot of other things. February was a busy month for wedding planning, and I know for a fact that March and April will be even busier.
Ok, now on to my goals for March.
Goal #1:
Get more organized for the wedding. This includes making final decisions on things, buying whatever else that still needs to be purchased, making payments on our massive vendor bills, and many other random wedding things. I’m being vague I know, but there’s just too many things to still do that I can’t wrap my head around how my friend Lauren plans weddings full-time. Laur, how the hell are you still sane?!
Goal #2:
Continue doing yoga at least a few times a week. I love yoga. I think I’m actually going to do yoga the morning of my wedding to calm me down and ground me. Reflexion Yoga is my favorite yoga video website (duh, you already knew that) and for a limited time I have a promo code for you! Click the link in my side bar. It’s 30% off with the code NICOLE30. I’ll be doing a full post on this probably on Tuesday, so keep an eye out if you’d like more information.
Goal #3:
Get through the month without any crazy wedding-related meltdowns. In general, I’ve been pretty good with not letting the small stuff bother me in terms of the wedding. Sure, we’re not taking a honeymoon and I was pissed/upset for a while, but there’s no use in getting upset. Sure, we’re only inviting 80 people and I’m scared our ceremony will look bare, but our closest family and friends will be there. This month I strive to try to like wedding planning and enjoy it while I can.

February Goals
February 5, 2014 | Goals |
I went back in my archives to look for my January Goals and I couldn’t find them. It seems like I made new year’s resolutions but not specific goals for January. Oh well, time for February! I’m continuing with my monthly goals because it gives me something to work towards each month. I hope you take part in goal-setting as well.
Goal #1:
Dedicate more time to working out. I’ve definitely slacked on the working out thing over the past few months. Over the summer, I was pretty religious with doing Reflexion Yoga videos and walking outside, but with the freezing temperatures we’ve been having, working out outside is just not an option. This month I want to work on putting together a workout routine that I can do anywhere!
Goal #2:
Be in bed by 10PM every night. I find that when I’m in bed by 10PM or earlier, I have ample time to relax in bed and fall asleep. If I get into bed much later, I typically don’t get enough sleeping time. I’m one of those people that if I don’t get enough sleep, I can’t function properly in the morning. For instance, on Monday night I didn’t get as much sleep as I would have liked to and yesterday my entire day was just “off.”
Goal #3:
Complete items on my wedding to-do list. This includes things like finalizing our wedding ceremony, writing my vows, purchasing a headpiece, going to my first fitting, and figuring out how much alcohol we’ll need. I’m sure there are tons of other things that need to be done, but I want to at lease get those items done this month. Time is ticking!

My New Years Resolution
December 31, 2013 | Goals, Holiday |
Just so you know what you’re in for, this may be a somewhat long post.
Well my friends, it’s the last day of 2013. This year definitely flew by for me. As many of you know, I got engaged in December 2012, so a lot of my time this year was spent planning my May 2014 wedding. I can’t believe the day is only 4 months away. Where did this year go?!
Over the past few days during my commute to work, I reflected on this past year. What were things I was proud of? What do I wish I could have done differently? What did I learn about myself? Of course I’m not going to answer those questions here on the blog, since it’s kind of personal, but I do want to address one thing:
I wanted to do a post about this a few weeks ago, but never had the time to sit down and process my thoughts. Since I now commute about 30 minutes to work in the morning and at least 45 minutes on my way home, I have a lot of time to think.
I thought a lot about what I wanted my new years resolution to be and whether I wanted to continue making monthly goals here on Simply Nicole. Well, yes I do still want to continue making monthly goals because I think it’s important to make short-term goals to keep you focused each month. Sure, there are some months when I forget about my goals, but this year I am going to make a conscious effort to accomplish them.
The answer to the other question — what is my new years resolution — is to take risks and be myself. Be myself through every aspect of my life. Every choice I make I want to ensure myself that it is something that I would do. I am in control of my choices.
In the past I’ve declined buying things because it didn’t fit into the style I had. It wasn’t something I would typically purchase and it wasn’t something that I thought people would expect to see me in. This year I’m going to buy things because I like them. It’s as simple as that. I’m tired of trying to have just one specific style. I’m going to buy pieces that I’m proud to wear. Quality over quantity this year.
In the past I’ve also declined going places and doing things because it made me uncomfortable. Going out for a drink on a work night? Typically I wouldn’t do such a thing, but this year I want to really strive to balance my work life and my personal life. There’s no problem with going out every once in a while if its something I want to do.
The list can go on and on of all the things I want to do this year. But it all stems back to one thing. I vow to be myself and take some risks… because I want to.

Nov. Goal Recap & Dec. Goals
December 3, 2013 | Goals |
The holiday season has officially arrived! Over the past week I finished the majority of my Christmas shopping, but I’m still looking for the perfect present for someone special – ahem, Bryan. I’m sure I’ll figure something unique to buy him. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at November.
My favorite posts from November:
-
Sun Cups – a delicious sunflower butter candy!
Since I had a pretty nasty cold for the majority of November, I wasn’t able to accomplish most of the goals I set for myself. That being said, I am going over to the gym this afternoon to get a short run completed in my new sneakers! More on that later this week.
1. Register for a half marathon in the spring. Did not complete. Not sure if a half marathon in the spring will be doable since I’ll be super busy planning this wedding, but we shall see. More to come on this.
2. Start running. Sort of completed. I went for a run in the beginning of the month just before I had this nasty cold. The rest of the month I didn’t exercise at all. TRUTH.
3. Stretch more. Sort of completed. I made an effort to stretch my legs out in the mornings, but I want to make this a priority in December.
1. Stretch more. Yep, it’s going on this month’s goal list again. Really going to try to get this accomplished this month. Maybe I’ll set reminders in my cell phone.
2. Run at least once a week. I figured I’d start small with this running goal.
3. Do yoga at least 2x a week. Reflexion Yoga, I’m coming for you!
